In January 2008, we ran a successful 20 week Biggest Loser challenge, with a total of 47 participants who lost a combined total of 475 pounds throughout the length of the program. The participants were divided into teams, and would have a weekly weigh-in, with the purpose to find which individual had the biggest percentage of weight loss, thus becoming the “loser of the week”.
There was a number of challenges, including passing of a weight ball, jello eating contest, as well as unscrambling letters to form a sentence, all in which were related to healthy living and exercise. The challenges became a highlight of the entire program because everyone had a great time, enjoying each others company and laughing, all while improving their overall health and wellbeing. Winners of the challenges would have their names drawn for health and exercise related prizes.

In addition to the fun and excitement the program educated the participants on healthy living. On one occasion, a nutritionist come in to speak to the group about healthy eating and diabetes. We would also have recipes and tips available each week. The winner won $500.00, a biggest loser sweatshirt and a bowling pass. The winner only beat the next person by ¾ of a pound!!!

This fall’s Biggest Loser Challenge started September 22nd, and is now well underway. This challenge has 50 participants, who meet every Monday. Prizes for this challenge will soon be decided, so check back for additional information. |
