2011 Winter Carnival
The Town of Come By Chance will be holding the 2011 Winter Carnival from February 12th to February 20th, 2010.
Saturday, February 12th:
- To start things off the Lions Club and Recreation are hosting a Community Brunch for all residents. The menu will consist of moose sausage, baked beans, fish cakes and homemade bread. This will take place at the Lions Club, beginning at 11:00 am. There is no cost for this brunch; however, donations will be accepted.
- The Recreation is hosting our Can’t Wait for Spring dance at the Lions Club. Music is by “First Choice” and admission is $10.00 per person (adults only) with finger foods provided. Put on your dancing shoes and come out for a night of good times and great music! Doors open at 9:00 pm.
- Please note: the Rec Centre will be closed on Saturday, February 12th.
Monday, February 14th:
- The Snowflake Treasure Hunt begins. Each day at 3:30 pm a new clue will be posted at the Town Hall Lobby. As always, the snowflake is hidden somewhere in the community. Get out and take a look around, you could win our prize!
- Again this year we are having a Coloring Contest, which is broken down into 3 groups. These groups are: preschool, grade K-3 and grade 4-Up. The sheets will be available at the Town Hall Lobby at 3:30 pm. Please place your sheets in the box provided to be judged on Sunday, February 20th.
- Hey Kids, put on your thinking caps! This year we want a name for our Winter Carnival. Please place your entry in the box provided at the Town Lobby. The winner will be announced at the Rec Centre on Sunday, February 20th and a prize will be awarded.
- The Lions Club will be hosting a Goods BINGO at 8:00 pm. Come and test your luck, you could be a winner! All ages welcome.
- This year (weather permitting!) we are having the BIGGEST SNOWMAN contest. Prizes will be awarded for the three tallest snowmen! Judging will take place on Sunday, February 20th. If you have any concerns with the weather affecting your snowman then give Roger a call @ 542-3244 and he’ll do the measuring!
Tuesday, February 15th:
- The Lions Club and Recreation are hosting a Potluck Supper at the Lions Club beginning at 6:00 pm. The cost will be $6.00 per adult and $3.00 per child 10 and under. Come enjoy a great meal with no dishes to clean!!
- After the Potluck, the LEO Club will be hosting a Bake Sale, beginning at 7:15 pm. They will also be selling grabs for $1.00/ea and tickets for their Valentine’s prize draw. Draw date is Sunday, February 20th at the Rec Center. You can purchase tickets all week long, just contact one of the LEO’s for details.

For your entertainment we will be hosting a game of Family Feud after the Potluck, beginning at 7:30 pm. Tickets for this event are $2.00 each and players will be picked from the ticket numbers sold. This event is open to ages 5 and up, but all ages are welcome to come and watch. Good luck!

Wednesday, February 16th:
- Come and join us at the sliding hill for a Family Sliding Party beginning at 6:00 pm. Hot chocolate and snacks will be provided.
Do you enjoy a great game of cards? If so then join us at the Rec Centre for an adult Card Game beginning at 7:00 pm. Come and try your “hand”!
- Don’t forget your 3rd Snowflake Treasure Hunt clue!
Thursday, February 17th:
- It’s time to sharpen your skates for a Family Skating Party beginning at 6:00 pm. We will also be having a wiener/marshmallow roast and hot chocolate to keep you warm. In the event of unfavourable ice conditions we will be holding a Family Weiner Roast near the sliding hill.
- Don’t forget your 4th Snowflake Treasure Hunt clue!
Friday, February 18th:
- Our 50+ residents are invited to attend a Stuffed Roast Beef Supper at the Lions Club, beginning at 5:00 pm. If you wish to attend you have to let Roger know by February 14th. If you do not reply we will assume you are not attending and your seat will not be reserved. Meals will be prepared based on the number of replies received. Give Roger a call at 542-3244.
- After supper all adults are invited for a night of entertainment beginning at 6:30 pm. Bar service will be provided.
- Don’t forget your 5th Snowflake Treasure Hunt clue!
- Please note: the Rec Centre will be closed on Friday, February 18th.
Saturday, February 19th:
- This year we are taking our youth to Clarenville for Bowling from 10:30 am – 11:30 am, and swimming from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm, with lunch provided. Please let Roger know by February 16th if you would like to attend. There are a limited number of seats available on the bus; after this date, seats will be offered to the youth of our neighbouring communities. There is no charge for this event. Note: the bus will leave the council parking lot at 9:30 sharp! (Please bring swimming gear and a towel).
Sunday, February 20th:
- If the snowflake has not been found yet there will be a 6t and final clue given out at the Rec Centre from 10:00 – 10:30 am
- Judging will take place for the Biggest Snowman and Coloring Contest.
- Don’t forget to decorate for our Parade of Lights. You can decorate your vehicle, ATV, trailer and even yourself! Be creative! Use lights, glow products and anything else you can think of. There will even be a prize for the best decorated person! The parade will be leaving the Fire Department at 6:30 pm.
- After the parade, meet us back at the Rec Centre for a warm-up with hot chocolate & cookies. At this time we will be awarding our prizes and the LEO Club will be drawing for their Valentine’s ticket draw.
